SUMMARY

The contributions in this number were presented during the study day held in memory of Carlo Volpe at the Fondazione di Studi di Storia dell´Arte Roberto Longhi in Florence on 28 October 2010.
Miklós Boskovits and Luciano Bellosi revisit Volpe´s study of Italian fourteenth-century painting, as does Michel Laclotte, with a specific focus on Sienese Gothic painting.
Massimo Medica offers discussion and in-depth analysis of paintings and miniatures in Bologna and the Po Valley region during the second half of the fourteenth century.
Daniele Benati addresses how Volpe read Bolognese art of the fifteenth century.
Mina Gregori recalls some of the seventeenth-century subjects treated by the scholar. Likewise, Renato Barilli addresses the art of the twentieth century.
Angelo Guglielmi and Anna Maria Matteucci reflect on their memories of youthful friendship with Volpe, and shared university life.
Bruno Toscano´s focus is on certain aspects of Volpe´s method as an art historian.
Serena Padovani´s contribution is on an unrelated topic, the history of the altarpieces by Raphael and Rosso Fiorentino that once stood on the altar of the Dei Chapel in the church of Santo Spirito in Florence.
